सत्ता भी एक तरह का नशा है। यह नशा तब प्रकट होता है जब कोई राजनीतिक नेता सत्ता के पद पर बैठता है। अब्राहम लिंकन से लेकर बेंजामिन फ्रैंकलिन और अन्य सभी राष्ट्रपति जो अमेरिका आये, वे विनम्र थे। लिंकन प्रश्न पूछने में कितने विनम्र थे? वे आम लोगों से बहुत सहजता और विनम्रता से बात करते थे। उनमें अहंकार बिलकुल नहीं था। डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने सत्ता संभालते ही दुनिया के अन्य देशों को धमकाना शुरू कर दिया। वे विश्व के अन्य देशों पर नियंत्रण करना चाहते हैं।
नियंत्रण का अर्थ है किसी अन्य व्यक्ति की मूल स्वतंत्रता का हनन।
यह बात कई सामाजिक कानूनों और नीतियों में स्पष्ट रूप से दिखाई देती है। अतीत में महिलाओं पर विभिन्न प्रतिबंध लगाये जाते थे तथा किसी न किसी कारणवश उनका शोषण किया जाता था। इसका कारण पुरुषों की नियंत्रण करने की प्रवृत्ति थी। यह आज भी रूढ़िवादी समाजों में मौजूद है। जाति व्यवस्था, अस्पृश्यता और गुलामी प्रथा सभी सामाजिक प्रणालियाँ नियंत्रण की प्रवृत्ति से पैदा हुई हैं। उनका आर्थिक, शारीरिक और मनोवैज्ञानिक शोषण किया गया है। नियंत्रण का सबसे अधिक उपयोग सत्ता में बैठे नेताओं द्वारा किया जाता है। शक्ति अहंकार और दंभ जैसे दुर्गुणों से जुड़ी होती है।
सभी धार्मिक और आध्यात्मिक विचारधाराओं में से शायद ही किसी ने व्यक्तिगत स्वतंत्रता को महत्व दिया हो। क्योंकि इससे सभी संस्थागत प्रणालियों के लिए समस्याएँ पैदा होती हैं। साम्यवाद और तानाशाही में, लोगों की स्वतंत्र सोच को प्राधिकारियों द्वारा बर्दाश्त नहीं किया जाता। राज्य जानबूझकर लोगों को नियंत्रण में रखने के लिए उन्हें गरीब और अज्ञानी बनाए रखता है। यही कारण है कि अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति ने घोषणा की कि अमेरिका में अवैध रूप से रह रहे लोगों को सेना की मदद से हिरासत में लिया जाएगा। हम बदनाम करने वाले बांग्लादेशियों के प्रति ऐसा रवैया नहीं अपना सकते, क्योंकि हमारा दृष्टिकोण मानवीय है। अमेरिका में रहते हुए, वे किसी भी ऐसे देश को बलपूर्वक निष्कासित करने में संकोच नहीं करेंगे, जिसे उनकी अमेरिका प्रथम नीति से नुकसान पहुंचे। ऐसा करने में हमारी असमर्थता के परिणामस्वरूप, राष्ट्र-विरोधी तत्व विस्फोटित होकर धू-धू कर जल जाते हैं। डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने दुनिया भर के कई देशों को धमकी दी है। उसने विरोध करने वाले देश पर सौ प्रतिशत टैरिफ लगाने की भी घोषणा की है।
दरअसल, राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने ब्रिक्स देशों को खुलेआम धमकी दी है। सोमवार (20 जनवरी) को शपथ लेने के तुरंत बाद राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने कहा कि स्पेन सहित ब्रिक्स देशों पर 100% टैरिफ लगाया जा सकता है। उल्लेखनीय है कि ब्रिक्स में वर्तमान में 10 देश शामिल हैं। इनमें ब्राज़ील, रूस, भारत, चीन, दक्षिण अफ्रीका, मिस्र, इथियोपिया, इंडोनेशिया, ईरान और संयुक्त अरब अमीरात शामिल हैं। स्पेन ब्रिक्स का हिस्सा नहीं है। इसके बावजूद, स्पेन डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प के रडार पर है। पिछले वर्ष दिसंबर में डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने ब्रिक्स देशों पर 100 टैरिफ लगाने का संकेत दिया था। हालांकि, इसके लिए उन्होंने एक शर्त भी रखी।
