Hollywood’s biggest night of the year has arrived: The 2025 Academy Awards is here.

The star-studded ceremony, celebrating excellence in film, is taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and broadcasts live on March 2 beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Conan O’Brien will host the ABC telecast.

Yahoo Entertainment has been tracking the Best Picture race throughout awards season, and Anora is the film to beat, with Conclave as its closest competitor.

Emilia Pérez is the most nominated film this year with 13 nods overall, but the controversy around star Karla Sofía Gascón's past X posts negatively impacted the Spanish-language musical crime dramedy’s Oscar campaign. Gascón, nominated in the Best Actress category, is expected to attend after sitting out much of awards season. Her co-star Zoe Saldaña is the frontrunner in the Best Supporting Actress category.

The Brutalist and Wicked are the films with the second-highest number of nominations, with 10 each.

The Los Angeles wildfires led to the nominations being postponed twice in January, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences leadership was determined to press on with the show. Academy CEO Bill Kramer said that in addition to filmmakers being honored, the show will recognize first responders and celebrate the enduring spirit of Los Angeles.

Something else that will be different this year is that there won’t be live performances of the Best Original Song nominees. Instead, the show will spotlight the songwriters behind the tunes.

Join us here as we cover the ceremony — the winners, the fashion, the viral moments and the faux pas — with live reporting from our team.

    Timmy C loves Adam Sandler

Perhaps the person who got the biggest kick out of Conan O'Brien and Adam Sandler's schtick was Timothée Chalamet himself.

The room laughed along as Sandler showed up in anti-black tie attire, but the part that really got the most laughs was at the end when Sandler did his "Chalamet" impression akin to his surprise appearance on SNL in February.

Conan O'Brien pays tribute to 'The Substance,' pokes fun at Karla Sofía Gascón and breaks into song during opening monologue

Conan O'Brien paid tribute to The Substance before his opening monologue, emerging from Demi Moore's back (and losing a shoe) before walking on stage.

O'Brien is a "four-time Oscar viewer," as the announcer said, and a first-time host. He welcomed the crowd to "Hollywood's biggest night that starts at 4 in the afternoon"

"A Complete UnknownA Real Pain. Nosferatu. These are just some of the names I was called on the red carpet. I think two were fair," O'Brien joked. He poked fun at all of the Best Picture nominees, from Wicked to Conclave.

"I didn't want it to end, and luckily it didn't," he said of The Brutalist, which has a brutal 3-hour-and-35 minute runtime.

He joked about Karla Sofía Gascón's publicist having a frustrating awards season, but the crowd cheered when he announced when she was attending the ceremony that night.

"If you're going to tweet about the Oscars, remember — my name is Jimmy Kimmel," O'Brien joked.

He announced that he would be implementing new rules to keep the Oscars running smoothly.

For one, if your speech goes too long, the camera will cut to John Lithgow in the audience looking "not angry, but slightly disappointed."

He threatened to show an old headshot if they still don't get off the stage.

Later, Adam Sandler was shown in the audience wearing a hoodie and gym shorts. O'Brien asked him to leave, and Sandler invited the audience to join him for basketball afterward. He gave Chalamet a hug, exclaiming his last name, then left to thunderous applause.

O'Brien then shifted to a more serious tone, announcing that the award would not just honor celebrities but also "hardworking men and women behind the camera" who are "devoted to a craft that can, for moments, bring us all closer together."

"The magic, the madness, the grandeur and the joy of film worldwide is going to be with us forever," O'Brien said, before promising to run a tight ship. He then broke into a song about not wasting time.

Over the following few minutes, he brought out the sandworm from Dune: Part Two to play chopsticks on the piano and a dancing Deadpool."

"We're four minutes over," he said before moving on with the show.

Offerman to winners: 'Keep it short'

Nick Offerman took the stage five minutes before showtime to remind winners to “keep it short.”

As the announcer for the night, he asked winners to get up there as quickly as possible. He joked that if you are giving hugs after your name is announced, whether they are “consensual or with Kevin Spacey,” to please get up there quickly. And, yes, a lot of people laughed at the joke.

Hollywood got some early love at the Oscars — and so did Wicked.

As we heard "There's no place like home" and ruby slippers clicked, there was a tribute to Hollywood. Clips from movies famously set in Tinseltown — like La La Land — played.

From there, Wicked fans were delighted by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's performance. After a very quick outfit change, Grande sang "Over the Rainbow" from the original Wizard of Oz. Erivo sang "Home" from The Wiz. Then they came together for "Defying Gravity."

Timothée Chalamet meets his 2nd date, Kylie Jenner, inside the theater

Timothée Chalamet seems to have two dates to the Oscars tonight.

He walked the red carpet with his mom, Nicole Flender, who was present when he won Best Actor at the SAG Awards last weekend.

Not all guests get a plus two, but Chalamet is no regular nominee. He stars in two of tonight's Best Picture nominees, Dune: Part Two and A Complete Unknown.

He's also one of two frontrunners for Best Actor for his portrayal of Bob Dylan.

Halle Berry dazzled in a breathtaking metallic Christian Siriano gown.

On the E! red carpet, Siriano revealed the design is adorned with around 7,000 crystals, painstakingly counted by his team until midnight as they put the final touches on the dress.

For the designer, it was all worth it: "My entire career, I've wanted to dress one person for the Oscars," he said of Berry, calling the moment a dream come true.

We don't remember Bob Dylan ever wearing this.

Timothée Chalamet has copied some of Dylan's looks during awards season, but this very yellow suit ensemble seems uniquely Timmy. (X has some Curious George jokes.)

The Best Actor nominee, for A Complete Unknown, which is about Dylan's early years, also accessorized with lots of gold — a brooch, watch, bracelet and some rings.

Tonight is a big night for the star, who, at 29, is the youngest two-time Best Actor Oscar nominee since James Dean. The actor's date on the red carpet was his mother, Nicole Flender. His girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, joined him inside the Dolby Theater, Yahoo's Taryn Ryder reported.

Although the director David Lynch died in January, his memory is alive at the Oscars. Two of his go-two starlets, Laura Dern and Isabella Rossellini, posed together for a photo on the red carpet.

Rossellini, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Conclave, is wearing blue velvet — an apparent nod to the Lynch film of the same name in which she starred in with Dern in 1986.

Rossellini posted on Instagram today that she spent the previous night "with my two guardian angels and favorite actresses @lauradern and #albarohrwacher."

The first-time Oscar nominee Zoe Saldaña dazzled on the red carpet in custom Saint Laurent, calling the night a “dream come true.”

Although her performance in Emilia Pérez earned her several honors — including Golden Globe and SAG awards — she said that having to sing in the film pushed her far out of her comfort zone. On the E! red carpet, Saldaña shared how she jokingly told co-star Selena Gomez about her struggle with the musical aspect of the film.

"That, to me, was the most uncomfortable part," she admitted. "I'm not a singer, even though I can hold a tune — but I’m a little tone-deaf, believe it or not."

She added, "I need a lot of guidance and training from people with perfect pitch so I don’t sing off-key, which happened often."

Adrien Brody and Georgina Chapman are an adorable pair on the Oscars red carpet, with Brody sporting a classic tux accented by a jeweled bird brooch and Chapman stunning in a dramatic black gown with sculptural detailing.

The Marchesa co-founder has kept a relatively low profile since her 2018 split from Harvey Weinstein, but she and Brody — who first met at a 2019 gala — have been a picture-perfect couple since making their red carpet debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021.

Felicity Jones and Demi Moore also had the same idea when they turned to Armani Privé for their silver looks. The Brutalist actress stood out in silk, while the Substance star went for a sexy sparkly silhouette.

The Best Actress nominee for The Substance is one of several stars tonight wearing a standout silver gown. (We see you too, Mindy Kaling and Felicity Jones.)

While Moore has attended Hollywood's biggest night many times in her long-running career, she's a first-time Oscar nominee. If she wins tonight — which is very possible, since she won at this year's Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and SAG Awards — she'll be the first Best Actress in 14 years to have starred in a horror film. The genre has historically been overlooked by the Academy.

Selena Gomez showed up in a dazzling, champagne-hued beaded gown designed by Ralph Lauren, proving that sparkle is the trend of the night.

The Emilia Perez star was giving old-Hollywood glamour with the off-the-shoulder silhouette, topping it off with diamond jewelry that added even more shine to her look.

    Protests disrupt Oscars arrivals

It’s pretty typical to have protests at these big awards shows, but in the nearly 20 years I have been doing this, Sunday night's scene as I approached the Dolby Theatre was a first.

A group of pro-Palestinian protesters swarmed cars in the security line, claiming they were “putting bombs under the cars.” The attention-grabbing tactic caused private security to jump out of one car to ensure it was not a real threat. Oscars security is top-notch — and more intense than ever today — so they were on it.

Protesters over the war in Gaza gather outside the Oscars

Several dozen demonstrators — including some with the self-described feminist grassroots anti-war group Code Pink — gathered near the Dolby Theater to protest what they described as "Hollywood's complicity" in the war in Gaza.

Multiple videos posted to social media showed LAPD officers standing watch, while a small group of activists shouted at cars as they arrived to drop off guests.

Yahoo Entertainment's Taryn Ryder, who was en route to the Dolby Theater, said some were walking in between cars along the route.

Fashion flashback: Jennifer Lawrence wore reportedly the most expensive Oscars gown of all time

The Oscars is often the place for some of the most glamorous red carpet looks during awards season and beyond. At the 2013 ceremony, Jennifer Lawrence, who won Best Actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, wore what’s believed to be the most expensive Oscars dress to date.

That night, Lawrence famously tripped while walking up the stairs to receive her Oscar in an embroidered cream gown with a voluminous skirt designed by Raf Simons for Christian Dior Haute Couture. The strapless frock alone is rumored to be worth between $4 million and $5.3 million. Lawrence, who began her partnership with Dior in 2012, signed a three-year deal with the brand in 2014 that was estimated to be between $15 million and $20 million. The deal stated she would exclusively wear Dior to red carpet events.
